DAY OF DANCE 2003

SAN FERNANDO DE HENARES (SPAIN)

HEALTHFUL AEROBIC, MOVE FOR  A HEALTHY DAY :

GIRLS AND BOYS TOGHETHER

This activity is directed to students 10 and 11 years old from a Public School, also to the students of 12 and 13 years old of Secondary Education. We work in the gymnasium of the educative center. We have begun the 4 of April, throughout this month and during the next May we will include all the groups. In one amused session,  take part a monitor of aerobic, a doctor of the town Council and the teacher of physic education of the school, we sensitised to students about the benefits that the dance in general, and aerobic in individual, contributes to the health by means of:

ü      To practice  aerobic exercise is healthy to the heart.

ü      The development of coordination, the flexibility, the muscular force and the ritm.

ü      Promotion of the social relations, the active leisure and corporal expression.

Also, to inform about these benefits, we give one orientation of gender, that is to say, we break stereotypes respect to the own activities of boys and girls. The group of monitors of aerobic that direct session is formed by students of the last course of the Faculty of Sciences of Sports (University of Castilla-La Mancha), men and women, so that the students see that really this type of physic activity may be made by boys and girls.

We placed posters in the gymnasium about Health Enhancing Physical Activity and the poster  “Day of  Dance”, elaborated with the model that you remitted us .

At the end of session, to return to the calm, we used the song: more and more active. With the purpose of attracting attention of the children and adolescents, we use the fashionable music of one song that music teachers of the school have written the letter   that emphasizes the benefits of the physic activity for the health. It is interpreted by these teachers and students of his school, they have recorded a compact disc.

Participation of the students is excellent and the welcome in the very good teaching staff. Although there is certain rejection from a part of the men in the beginning, finally they are integrated wonderfully in the activity. Until now 220 students have made it, of them so only a girl don’t participate because she feel ashame to dance and four boys retired during the activity, because probably they feel ashame also. In these cases our message is: we invited and we animated you to participate, in any case only watch is amused and... perhaps next time animate yourself to make it with us.

Once finished session, we gave to each student a aerobic healthful passport, signed by the monitor of the activity. With this, they can take free a refreshment in the educative center. We attached in file Pasaporte Aerobic . ppt

All the students, boys and girls, wish to repeat the activity in next year. They say to us in the final colloquy of session.

We send also photos of the Celebration of Day of Dance 2003, for Web page.

See you soon!
